The Network Theme section is being removed from the sidebar. It is massively outdated as plenty more machines have been added, and some of those listed have changed drastically. The section will still be online for those who find it in the old news, and hopefully one day will get resurrected with an updated listing of the computers in the DougTheSlug.ca network.

There has been a new section added. In place of the starcraft section, there is now a generic gaming section. The starcraft section can still be accessed from in side the gaming section, but the gaming section covers most of the DougTheSlug.ca community gaming. This new section can be accessed in the sidebar, taking the position where the old starcraft section was available.

Got a lot of Scanning done today, you can expect more pictures up tomorrow along with these pictures of the RC Car race track we made. Using Hard Pink Insulating Foam as the race track, we painted on the track using black paint. Then using this Great Stuff we made our mountains. After this, we painted on the grass, added texture with those special spray paints. Next was making the border of the track using rope and blocks of regular styrofoam painted with the light brown texture spray paint. Finally, we have our Race Track.

Damn, It looks like I'm going to have to make my videos without DivX from now on, or provide both DivX and non-DivX. I have seen many people download the video over and over, and have heard multiple people tell me they cannot play the video. So after my exams are done, making a non-DivX version will be in the works. (This of course will be added to the mile long list of things that need to be done that I've accumulated while studying for exams as I have spent almost no time on anything but studying)

Well, earlier today I was starting to think that Telus might actually be giving me some reliable service. I hadn't had any downtime in months. I must have jinxed myself because Telus went down today. It appears to be back up, only a few hours later, so it wasn't that bad, but I hope this isn't the first in a series of outages.

Well, with the cluster up and running, I am making lots of beautiful pictures with the Kandel Application. I am going to make 800x600 fractal images and post them here on the site. If I get enough, I may make a section to list them all. Here is the first fractal image: Disc [569K].

Now that I have created the cluster. I have made the HOWTO for a mosix cluster. This HOWTO is very centralized around my setup here.

The cluster is running. Due to a lack of ethernet cables, I only have 6 nodes running. I am now trying to get some software onto the cluster to run. But I'm gonna need a switch behind the cluster. A lot of data gets sent around, and the collision light is solid. It is cool, I've seen processes on up to 4 machines at once, but with all the traffic, it will lose contact with a node temporarily and it will dissappear for 5 seconds, which can't be good for trying to get the process done. For those who would like to try and create their own, or are simply curious, I will write up the complete process I used to install all the machines.

Sucess! I have transferred a process from one machine to another. Now I begin the [non transferrable] process of setting up the rest of the machines 2 at a time. Now just to figure out what I'm gonna do with this monstrosity, which is combined, probably crappier than one of my high end machines.

Well then. Brownout. Only killed a couple machines. Luckily the bulk fo the services stayed up, but the IRC and gaming services were down for a few hours. I have since brought things back up, and I hope everything is working now. Heh, it's kinda funny, the only machines that went down were windows machines. Go figure. All my linux boxes and my Macs were fine.

After acquiring about 10 more computers, we finally have some machines to do a Beowulf Cluster with. Started attempting to set that up last night using Debian. Go to the www.MOSIX.org site to see what we are trying to do. Very Cool. Although were still not too sure what we're going to run when were done setting it up, assuming we are able to set it up. It is quite complicated.

I have just spent hours and hours working on the site, to make a change that hopefully most of you will barely notice. Go Figure. Basically, the sidebar will not stay in one spot anymore. I won't bother explaining what I did or why, but if you notice any strage things happening with the site, take a screenshot, and email it to Doug.

Grrr. Hydro killed our power out to bring a new area up. This happened on Friday sometime. So the site has been completely down, since my computers do not come back up after a power outage. I have now reebooted and brought up all the critical machines (this takes a while, I can't do them all at once, and I usually have to do a couple things to each machine after booting it). Anyways, I shot 2 and a half films from the RoVent camp this weekend, hope to have them developed and up soon.

Alrighty, I have picked up a new backend machine. This machine will take the place of a variety of crappier backend machines. This will happen tomorrow during the day. I hope to complete the whole process of transferring the works in one day. I do not know how long exactly this will take, so downtimes in some services, such as IRC, games servers. I will try and remember to give an all clear message when i get services back up.
