Welcome to the Picture contest.
This contest is to see who can make up the best picture. If you plan on doing image editing in photoshop or something similar, I will expect a fair amount of editing to the image.
Here's some ideas of things that can be done: (to get you started)

  1. Photography [Sample]
  2. Photoshop image editing -- image mixing [Sample]
  3. Image editing -- General, from scratch [Sample]
  4. Drawings [Sample]
  5. Sketches [Sample]
  6. Computer Graphics (generated using a 3D program) [Sample]
  7. Sculptures (A picture of...) [Sample]
Now, for the criteria. The images must be single frame, no animations or videos. The image must be in digital format, so pictures taken with film must be scanned. (I could scan them in if necessary)
This last point is the most important:
The entries must be Original Material.
If you are doing image editing, it must have enough editing (up to the judges for that) or, if changes are subtle, you must let us know what you have done to it.
Now for the part you all want to know about. Prizes:
The prizes will be scaled, depending on the number of people who enter. A person can make as many entries as he/she wants.
The base prize is $10 (gift certificate to A&B sound).
If more than 5 people enter, a Second prize of $10 (gift certificate to A&B) will be added
If more than 15 people enter, the 1st prize will become $20 and 2nd Prize will remain at $10
If I massively underestimate the number of people who enter, I may add more prizes while the contest is running, I doubt you'll complain. But that decision is solely the decision of Doug. To Sum it up: get your buddies to check out the site and enter, then the prizes will get bigger.
When:
This contest has been officially opened through a news item. The contest will close at the end of December. Most likely the 30th (if you don't hear otherwise, It will be 23:59 Dec 30th). The judging will take place on the 31st or 1st and the Prizes will be declared on those days in the news.
Technicalities. I have the rights to publish your entries on the site. The entries can stay as your property, and you may enforce anything outside of DougTheSlug.ca as you wish with your material. I doubt this will be an issue, since by submitting, chances are you know it will be put on some sort of display. The judges are the listed in the Members section. Those listed in the members section are not allowed to win the prizes. (But they are fully allowed to submit entries to the contest if they wish to, and may win a 'members' prize, which will have no cash value, but will simply mean they get a larger posting than the non-winning entries on the site for their image). Lastly, do not edit copyrighted material unless you edit it to the point where it is unrecognizable.
Submitting:
There is only one way to easily submit. You can use the Web Upload built into this server, using the submit link in the sidebar. !!! IMPORTANT: Do Not Make the Filname Too Big or It Will Get Cut Off During the Upload Process !!! Or, if you know me, and it is in a format you can give to me (picture, image on disk) then feel free to hand it to me when you see me. Lastly, if you are submitting over the net, make sure you let me know who it is. And please zip these files together, that will make it a lot easier for you if you only upload the one file, and easier for me since I will know which info sheet goes with which entry. On this added entry form, add your mailing address if you do not know me personally so I can mail the prize to you if necessary and an email address would be nice.
